SALE AND OFFERS might make you feel YOU'RE WINNING for Short period of time but You're Actually LOSING...KNOW WHY?....!

Sales AND OFFERS MAKE YOU BELIVE YOU’RE WINNING BUT IN LONG TERM YOU’RE NOT….. KNOW WHY?


How many times have you bought 3 pairs of Denim together because the offer said BUY 2 AND GET 1BARE DENIMS FREE!

We all have fell for one of those ‘Traps’. Your mother too has; BECAUSE the offer said 1kg tomatoes for 30/- and 2kg is for 50/- . Whereas she clearly knew she had about half a kg tomatoes in the fridge already and she doesn’t need more than a 1kg for herself.

You might also remember that one time you had to have loki ki sabji for a whole week and your mother convinced you that it is the ONLY vegetable you ever need to eat to stay healthy or loose weight. That is because there was a “15/- OFF above 2kg” sign over the counter and your mother didn’t want to loose such lucrative offer. If you were her you wouldn’t either. While in Spencers your mom forgot to ask if she might really need more than 2kg for her. The results?- you had it everyday in a week because if you don’t it will rot.

This Happens out of Consumer's Fear.

 There is this very interesting thing that is we need to know- We don’t buy what we need. We buy what we want.

Maybe I’ll repeat myself once again- WE DON’T BUY WHAT WE NEED. WE BUY WHAT WE WANT and want can be created because we as human purchase things without actually knowing the real cause. We buy it because it felt right.

If you ask a consumer why do they buy a specific detergent they’ll say because it cleans well and that is and that should be the only purpose of using a detergent ; doing laundry and making the clothes clean. And for that reasons for years all detergents brands has palso been advertising “How their detergent is the best at cleaning clothes.” . It was only recently, when in a survey woman and househelps were asked what do they do right after washing the clothes ? and there they came to know that almost all of them first smells it. And That Is It!!!  It wasn’t about how clean the apparel looks but how clean it makes theme feel.

As consumers we never ask ourselves the right questions before buying anything we buy. My mom buys liters of Comfort every month just because it makes the fabrics smell nice. It gives her the feeling of freshness.

Remember there was this one time when there was a offer like BUY TWO BODYWASHES(some brand that is new) AND YOU GET A HANDCREAM WORTH 375/- ABSOLUTELY FREE! Yes I know you bought it because you thought buying 500 Rs/- of bodywash and getting a handcream worth 375 is an outstanding offer .

But in reality you fell for ‘The Trap' . It’s the red shinning SALES tag on top of the shelf that TIPPED YOUR TIPPING POINT and NOW you eneded up with a bodywash that you got bored of using after a month and one 30ml overly scented basic moisturizer which isn’t any better than your regular body lotion.

And that’s how we ended up in the RAT-RACE ONCE AGAIN.
All because WE DON’T WANT TO FEEL LEFT BEHIND.

Have you ever seen a baby fall and her mother saying don’t look at her and she would forget? It’s the same psychology !

We all want attention. WE, HUMANS LOVE ATTENTION. We always want to be the center of attention , we never want to miss out. We always want to stay in ‘I know what happened’ group of men. And this fear of MISSING OUT, the fear of WHAT IF is what makes us purchase the items on sale because we don’t want to miss out the offer. And once we miss out the offer we feel like we’re opted out of the crowd.

And this ‘FEAR’ of missing out or ‘CONSUMER’S FEAR' as I like to say it,causes the the companies to make the RAT –TRAPS like ‘SALES!’ , ‘upto 50% OFF’, ‘BUY2 GET1 FREE’ etc.

But that doesn’t mean I’m saying don’t buy anything that’s on sale but maybe do it wisely BEACAUSE YOUR LOSS IS SOMEONE ELSE’S GAIN. .....! 


THIS IS ONE WAY OF LOOKING AT THE ISSUE BUT DO YOU KNOW THAT ALTHOUGH OFFERS AND SALES BOOST SALES AND IT MIGHT SEEM LIKE THE SALES PEOPLE AND COMPANY ARE WINNING BUT IN LONG TERM THEY’RE ACTUALLY LOSING.

  10. impulsive buying by customer is marketing strategy for seller nowadays. customer by something extra than need is gain for seller. everyone has to be alert in spending and not getting in to trap in present situation when income source are uncertain.
